Why Suburb Boys Pretend To Be Inner City Gangsters & Why Women Who Complain About Misogyny Listen To Rap

I know that these are two things that have confused quite a great many people. But the thing is these two things make perfect logical sense and I’ll explain why in a moment. But first lets talk a little bit about this phenomenon. I’ve taught in a number of schools, some good, some not so good. And I always found it funny that whether the school was situated in some nice suburb area with a Starbucks on every corner or in some fenced off ghetto that the amount of kids pretended to be “gangster” was always about the same.

While most would expect it in the fence offed school where there were actual gangsters wandering around outside the fence (super fun school to teach in by the way) but what surprised many was the amount in the suburb school. After all these kids aren’t struggling to get by, there is no need for them to resort to criminal activities, and so on and so forth as the suburb people arguments go (not that the others had much of an excuse but that’s a topic beyond here).

These suburb teachers were confused. I remember the same thing with some guys in college. They’d talk about how they’d make a joke and the girls they were hanging out with would tell them they were being “misogynists” or whatever then turn around and listen to a song that called them little stupid ass bitches and sing along to every word. Again to the confusion of these males.

Now here’s the thing while these two occurrences may seem like they’re completely unrelated they actually have the exact same “cause”.

What Is Lacking?

So let’s take a look at what is lacking in these suburb kids and college girls lives and why they respond the way that they do. It’s no secret in modern America masculinity is hard to find, it’s hard to find anywhere, much less in mainstream culture. The cowboy has long been dead with few exceptions (Seriously they still had Clint Eastwood doing roles at almost 90 years of age). The only somewhat acceptable form of masculinity that’s anywhere to be seen in the mainstream is athletes and rap music. Pretty much everything else has been neutered completely.

So these suburb boys wanting to be masculine and affirm their masculinity and these college girls wanting to be around and perform for masculine men naturally both gravitate to rap and the “ethos” it represents. Everything else is either dead or neutered. Like I said it’s been a long time since the cowboys, just take a look at the country music on the airways coming out of Nashville. Which is ironic since the next thing is accusing country music of being misogynistic which is code word for not being enough (almost like a shit test to country musicians).

And other alternative forms of masculinity are nowhere to be seen except in small pockets therefore rap and the culture built up around it is the natural gravitating point for males and females who need some masculinity in their life. That’s why a rap song that says “You little stupid ass bitch I ain’t fucking with you” will be sang by every feminist at the top of her lungs while a country song that says “Country girl shake it for me” will be berated as misogynist by every major outlet. One is unapologetically masculine the other only goes halfway, not to mention that the rest of country songs are too busy putting “pussy on the pedestal” and literally worshiping it while the rest of rap songs stay on message.

It all has to do with masculinity or rather the lack of it. Every guy from the sons of rich bankers to kids born to a coal mining family wants to be masculine while every girl whether royalty or the daughter of a prostitute wants masculinity in her life. And when that cannot be found from one’s surroundings then it will be searched for somewhere else.

Lack Of Masculinity

It is interesting how many problems can be traced back to a lack of masculinity. From having success to business to attracting women to overcoming life’s challenges and more. And both males and females need strong masculinity to pattern themselves after or pattern their interest after. Masculinity is something that is naturally responded to, just like strength (which is a part of masculinity). One doesn’t choose whether or not they respond to strength they simply do. Just like one does not choose whether or not one responds to gravity.

Whereas with things like morality or being a good person, people can choose whether they respond to them or not. Anyways I thought this was an interesting observation and something I’ve heard people confused about. It amazes me how many people get this wrong. I remember one discussion over at Chateau Heartiste (RIP) in the comments where one guy (unaware of female biology) was saying something along the lines of women have been programmed to listen to rap in spite of its misogyny to which another guy (aware of female biology) responded no its because of its “misogyny” (which can often mean any trace of masculinity anymore) that women listen to it.

So next time you’re out and you see a guy in daddy’s escalade blaring songs about slinging dope to make a living or a woman’s study major singing songs about her being a “stupid ass ho” at the top of her lungs, well now you know why.
