For a long time now there are things that I’ve been trying to put into words but haven’t been fully able to communicate to you my reader. There is a certain feeling….no, a spirit that I have been trying to communicate to you. This is the spirit that I have hoped would be awoken within you when I have said to read the Howard tales of Conan the Barbarian, when I have said to buy Frazetta art and soak it in, when I have said to listen to Manowar when you train, and so much more.
Little did I know that this spirit I was trying to convey to you was that of the Bronze Age and here in this book Bronze Age Mindset, Bronze Age Pervert has put into words the spirit that I have long been trying to convey. If for that reason alone I recommend that every man pick up a copy, actually pick up multiple copies. One for yourself, one for each of your sons, and one for your männerbund.
But before we get into the book, some minor things to cover. One this book can be hard to read as it’s mostly walls of text but because of the content it still gets five out of five stars from me. Second it can wind around in some places but I encourage you to stick with it because of the points that are made. I know my books with their stream of conscious nature have the same faults so frankly if you’re a fan of my work you’ll be just fine (especially Man Up).
The book is divided into 4 “parts” that I’ll be reviewing separately as they all cover a different “aspect” of the Bronze Age Mindset (and don’t worry this is NOT a self help book). The 4 “parts” are The Flame Of Life, Parable Of The Iron Prison, Men Of Power & The Ascent Of Youth, and A Few Arrows.
The Flame Of Life
This book covers many concepts that I cannot hope to cover is one review so with each section I’ll highlight certain ideas that stood out to me and hope to give the overall feel of the section as well. In The Flame Of Life Bronze Age Pervert makes a distinction between two “forms” of life. One the yeast form of life where life is sought out for the sake of life. This is life at its lowest level, life simply for the sake of reproduction and survival. Life without spirit and without fire. When you look at modern Western democracies I would argue this is the most common form of life. This is a form of “life” that would accept slavery to death.
On the other hand you life with the flame of spirit, life that seeks to develop its powers to the fullest and that seeks to revel in the spirit of life that was given to them. They don’t seek life for the sake of life (survival and reproduction) but rather to win glory and honor or the equivalent for the species. A man such as Achilles, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Conan, and other heroes of both this world and others had this flame of life rising within them. Whereas our age produces the yeast like inferior form of life in mass numbers.
The Parable Of The Iron Prison
Now I’m going back through this section to see if this is explicitly stated and can’t find it but I believe iron prison refers to Hesiod’s cycle of Gold, Silver, Bronze, & Iron. The Iron Age being one of most disconnect from the gods and man becoming the most base (from a spiritual level). The Iron Prison being the machinery of our current age everything from HR ladies to the police state and much more. The snuffing out and destruction of vitality, heroism, masculinity, and the flame of life itself.
Here Bronze Age Pervert lays out many things, from the baseness of most of civilization (the ant society) to the strains the yeast form of life puts on good things (from nature to heroes). He explains how this modern prison crushes out heroism, masculinity, and goodness (from a biological not a modern “moral” standpoint) and the many ways in which this is done. He talks about how an Ajax born in this time would be in a mental asylum or dead (or castrated mentally, physically, and spiritually). He talks about how the old, weak, and womanly conspire to snuff the life out of the young, masculine, beautiful, and virile (page 106 described America perfectly).
Men Of Power & The Ascent Of Youth
While The Parable Of The Iron cage describes the problem (poignantly) Men Of Power & The Ascent Of Youth describes the solution. One thing I love about this book is Bronze Age Pervert has a deep knowledge of history (and not the pozzed version that is presented to you by the rulers of this age). The epitome of life is in the military state of strong men, of strong brothers seeking grand aims. In this section Bronze Age Pervert tells of many tales of great men of history who embodied the fire of life. He talks of people (from the Spartans to Germanic barbarians) and individuals (from Clearchus to Vasco De Gama) and shares many stories illustrating the power that once beat in the hearts of men.
This is my favorite section and perhaps the most important part of this section (there are many) is his discussion of male friendship. In our day and age men doing anything together aside from harmless pre-approved activities by their wives or mothers risk being called “gay”. Shows of affection and enjoyment between men obviously means they’re sucking each other off (or at least that’s the view of our age (do you yet see how sick this age is?)). I count myself lucky Bronze Age Pervert says “I doubt you understand what such friendship means or that you ever had such friend!” talking about bonds between strong men and yet I do and see the tremendous power in this. Powerful blood brother friendships between men can destroy the rotted parts of this age and usher in goodness (real goodness) once more and that is why the rulers of this age fear it so.
A Few Arrows
This section starts off with a bang here is part of it “Giving “freedom” to women – an impossibility. With the liberation of women in the 19th century, the West has given itself an infection from which it can’t recover without the most terrible convulsions and the most thorough purgative measures”. This isn’t from a “hatred” of women but rather a fact of life. Women have many great facets that are covered in this book, however being men isn’t one of them. I assume the title of this sections means a few arrows to use against the lies of our time or at least that how I see it.
Bronze Age Pervert covers feminism (much better than those of a lowly spirit such as “conservatives” ever could), the threat of the suburbs, the baseness of “social justice” and other maladies and delusions of our time. He even covers fitness briefly (which makes sense if you follow Bronze Age Pervert’s twitter account, which I recommend you do). This section covers all sorts of much needed truths to have in your quiver. Sort of rapid fire destroying illusions and delusions of the iron age rulers.
Bronze Age Mindset
One thing Bronze Age Pervert talks about is he isn’t trying to convince anyone in this book but rather to write to those who already have the power, blood, and spirit within them and awaken them. This book was not made to convince the bugmen to change but rather to encourage the barbarian to grab his sword and feel his power. You’ll either like this book or not, it’ll either speak to something deep inside of you or not. For me I think it’s one of the most timely books ever written and shows a way forward, a bright future for men to once again live a life of high adventure in an age undreamed of.
As the back of the paperback says “Return to the spirit of the Bronze Age. Purification of the world. National nudism”. As one Amazon reviewer put this is not a book of memes this is a powerful book for all men who feel caged in this age and that there is something wrong with the world and that something should be done about it.
