Health can be a very confusing topic. Like history, sociology, biology, and essentially every other area of human study out there, there are “forces” that want to muddy and hide the truth for various reasons. Making it a confusing mess that few people can ever hope to navigate thus causing dependence of these “forces”. This is less conspiratorial and maniacal as it sounds, as a matter of fact it’s common business practice, just study any marketing textbook. Like I’ve said in other places simply how the world works.
But it’s a shame because so many people don’t get the help or the health that they need. They’re led down a never-ending rabbit hole that’ll never get them what they want or more importantly what they need. They’re told natural things are bad and cheap corporate replacements supported by the government is better. For example the “meat is bad” thing, eat our Frankenfoods instead. Or the replace natural butter with margarine. Or any number of equally ridiculous nonsense. Even being “educated” in nutrition really just means you “educated” in the “official narrative”, just like with history, psychology, or anything else. Again no conspiratorial just how the world works.
How human nature works. People don’t give things out for free and they’ll always do what’s in their benefit, at least for the most part. But what does that have to do with you and what does that have to do with health and being healthy? There are two lines of thought, so to speak, that I have found that help with healing the body that go against the modern world’s interpretation of health and what makes for a healthy body (namely relying on government health agencies and pharmaceutical companies, among other things). How one can achieve true health.
Achieving True Health
These two lines of thoughts are “traditional” bodybuilding of the 80’s and before. Lots of meat, eggs, good carbohydrates, good fats and all of that. Combines with what has been called “ancestral nutrition” things like drinking kefir, living a more natural lifestyle, and the like. Two great resources that I recommend everyone pick up on the subjects are Arnold’s Modern Encylopedia of Bodybuilding and Sally Fallon Morrel’s Nourishing Traditions. At first it might seem like these two books couldn’t be more different but there’s a lot to them that matches up.
To grossly oversimplify this ancestral nutrition does a good job of getting the micro stuff covered while bodybuilding does a good job of getting the macro stuff covered. For example most who follow the ancestral tradition type diets and lifestyles don’t get enough protein. Likewise those that follow the bodybuilding diet and “lifestyle” (but not extreme lifestyle) generally don’t concern themselves with things like gut health and the like. When you focus on both you really drive your health to the next level.
You become more resistant to infections and diseases. You have healthier hormonal profiles and become less dependent on medications and the like. Don’t get me wrong, always check with your doctor before making any dietary changes and certainly before medical changes but my point is that addressing both aspects will make you healthier across the board. In some cases it even heals lifelong ailments that people just thought they’d have to live with and that doctors just said “pay me and take this drug” for.
Can’t Outsource Your Health
You can’t outsource anything that is important to you. Your health, your lifestyle, the raising of your children these are all jobs that you have to take on yourself. Which means you have to do research and you have to think about these things. And as many a wise man has said thinking ain’t easy but it’s needed. It’s hard work but the good things in life don’t come without hard work. And not just the physical kind. But the mental kind as well. You have to become educated about these important subjects.
And when I say educated I don’t mean you went to school for them which is the lowest level of education (with some exceptions) and you may have just been taught things according to money and/or an agenda, not what the truth is. You have to learn, read, and research on your own and come to your own conclusions about things. Of course learn and listen to experts but also know that everyone is human and some are brainwashed and/or getting their pockets lined. Not to be paranoid just to keep your wits about you and not abdicate thinking just because someone has a certain title or distinction.
Don’t get caught up in crazes. One day all fat is bad, the next all carbs, the day after that all proteins, and so on and so forth. Humans are adaptable species and one that’s hard to kill. Understand the basics of health and how the human body was meant to function. I’d also recommend studying epigenetics and understanding the basics of what it is. If I run across one good single book on the subject I’ll reference it somewhere. But until then think about what I’ve said here and pick up Arnold’s book as well as Sally’s. You’ll learn a lot from each, though no single book is perfect or all encompassing.
Don’t abdicate your health to others, you can’t afford it. Sometimes literally.
