Why The Red Pill No Longer Equals Freedom (Legends Of Men)

This is a guest post from Jared Trueheart of Legends Of Men. A site dedicated to reviving masculinity with a focus on masculine stories (something I’ve been talking about more and more). He’s written a number of books one of my favorites being The Man’s Guide To Conan The Conqueror. In this article Jared talks a bit about the history of the red pill and how it lost its way and most importantly what this means for you personally. Enjoy.

The promise of the red pill was originally a sense of freedom. While you’re still on the blue pill, the world around you is a fake system designed to manipulate your thoughts and actions. By taking the red pill you were theoretically granted freedom from that fake system. With the ability to see the truth, to see the strings manipulating the marionettes, you could navigate the world free of manipulation. Unfortunately, the red pill failed to live up to that promise.

Freedom is undeniably important to men. Men need freedom to make important decisions, to move, to go where we decide we need to go, to stay when we decide we need to stay. The masculine form is so because men are leaders. To lead effectively, a man needs freedom.

Charles Sledge’s motto, which you will find at the top of his site, is “Reclaim Your Freedom.” He’s offering what the red pill community was working toward before it ultimately lost its way. From 2014 to 2017 the red pill community began looking deeper into the world behind the blue pill illusion. What it saw was not just the ludicrous and insidious messages of feminism; it also questioned the values of consumerism, higher education, corporate America, urbanism, the political machine, the welfare system, etc. The red pill began to offer freedom.

Then it failed.

The red pill was born of pick-up artistry. Dedicated womanizers began to ask why they had to act like such clowns to take club sluts home. Then they asked why it kept getting easier to bone otherwise worthless women in the stalls of bar bathrooms. By asking why they eventually came to the red pill. Initially, this enabled PUAs to better seduce women. That too became to easy, and any man who took the red pill had to speak about its evils, even while they participated in those evils.

Without the leadership of figures who realized the emptiness of that lifestyle, the red pill community began to backslide. It was no longer about seeing the truth to avoid manipulation and be free. Shortly after Trump was elected, the feminist hysteria began to recede from public discourse. Red pill consumers, however, preferred the good ol’ days of bitching and moaning about feminism.

First, they continued to highlight ridiculous feminists. They “exposed” the hypocrisies of mainstream media, leftists, and cultural Marxists. These were only feel-good mechanisms. Feminists, leftists, and the media don’t care when you highlight their hypocrisies. It hasn’t stopped them one bit.

Next, they took another step back. They began focusing on game, pick-up artistry, dominating sluts for the sake of dominating sluts, and increasing notch counts (purely for ego validation, by the way). In 2016, you wouldn’t think guys would still be making money by teaching beta males how to pass women’s shit-tests. There was already a decade worth of material on a subject that ultimately lead nowhere. Yet, some of the biggest names in the red pill community do just that.

Now, the red pill community is essentially back in the matrix. The community was on the path to freedom. Instead, it stepped back into slavery. The community is enslaved to its own carnal desires and manipulated by an over-sexed world of porn addiction and celebrated debauchery. The community is enslaved to a world that celebrates consumerism and manipulated by images of products as status symbols. It is enslaved by a desire for riches and manipulated by every Tom, Dick, and Harry that encourages you to be an entrepreneur, create your own start-up, and buy their guide to social media marketing while you’re at it.

This is why sites like Charles Sledge’s (and my own, Legends of Men) are so important. Charles offers something deeper, a more honest freedom. His site tries to bring men closer to what is truly valuable in life. He knows that the value of proper diet and exercise isn’t in how much it can help you get laid (though it will); the value lies in helping you be the master and commander of your own body so that when your athleticism is needed you can call upon it. He knows that the value of money isn’t that it allows you to buy an over-priced status symbol to be flaunted in front of hoes; the value of money lies in the way it enables you to support your loved ones and pursue fulfilling actions.

I respect Charles because, like him, I try to impart this message to the men who read me and the men I know personally.

The red pill may have lost its way, but you don’t have to. Pursue true freedom. Once you have it, send me a postcard.
