But it is oh so worth it. I want to take some time today to talk about freedom, happiness, and the higher things in life and how one goes about attaining them. How one goes about living the true good life and getting almost everything that one wants out of this existence. Or more accurately to be fulfilled, as much as possible. To go to bed each night satisfied even if tired. To know that you are on the right path and taking the right actions.
A tall order but one that I think can be fulfilled (or at least moved closer to) by the majority of men. Granted given enough time, knowledge, and effort. So let’s get started. First off I think there are certain ways that man as a whole was meant to live and when man goes against this natural way of living he runs into all sorts of problems. On the other hand I think each man’s soul is different and will require different things to fulfill it. And on yet another hand I think there are multiple aspects to every man that when not developed lead to “atrophy of living” of sorts.
Now granted I’m not going to be able to cover all of this in depth in this essay (would require a book) but I do want to give the broad outline and my thoughts on the subject. So let’s start with the nature of most people and the world that we live in and what that means for you and for living the life that you want and in my opinion at least, were created to live. But to start this off let’s start with lies and their purpose.
Why You’re Being Lied To
When we’re young (depending on the culture and place we live in) we’re often told to trust the things around us, the society around us. In olden times that was often good if it was the traditions of our culture/race/tribe/whatever. However when human societies got bigger, things started to change. Things were done not for the benefit of the individual but rather for those in the society that were at the upper peaks. The kings, emperors, high priests, and the like.
People weren’t taught to be the best for the tribe but rather best for the king/emperor/etc. and this only accelerated in the industrial age where the grand kings/emperors and such became more and more concentrated and became international. Fast forward to the information age and it’s become even more concentrated and interconnected. The kings/presidents/prime ministers and the like are generally puppets by others. This isn’t a conspiracy but just the nature of power and the world we live in.
So slowly but surely the world is beginning to march to the beat of one drum and that drum is not in your or I’s best interest. Distinct cultures and peoples (true diversity) are being crushed together into one homogeneous slave culture. You’re being lied to because you were never meant to be a full person that way that the Creator made you to be. Rather you are being lied to so you can be a good slave and keep those who own the world in charge of it. Again not a conspiracy just the nature of power and our modern technology (and of course human nature).
Burning Out The Lies
These lies are inculcate into use since we are born. Media, schools, often religions, and much more are used to drill these lies deep into our very fiber so that when presented with the truth we will revolt from it and fight against it. These lies are made to become part of us and most importantly of all, something that we invest in. And when we invest in something we defend it and protect it, even when it’s hurting or destroying us. Like a weed with deep strong roots or a parasite that has intertwined with the host on a deep level.
So the process of removing these lies is often painful and depending on the person’s attitude can be impossible. You have to burn the lies out of yourself and as the saying goes when you first truly see it’ll hurt and when you ask why your eyes hurt you’ll be told “Because you’ve never used them before.” that’s more than just a throw-away line from a movie. It’s a statement of reality and how things actually work. When we’re first presented with the truth we often fight against it because the lies are comforting and familiar. However in order to have a solid foundation to stand on (the house on the rocks as opposed to the house on the sand) truth is required.
Also when we strip away the lies often we can be left with very little, a sad state of affairs but a true one (and one that is not necessarily the individual’s fault). Creating another barrier to truth (which like most was put there by design). Even if it leaves us with nothing we need to burn away the lies, because it’s the foundation for letting the truth take root. We’ll fight it at first but just allowing it to do its thing will be enough at the start. It’s a process, it’s often unpleasant, and it takes time.
The Path Of Truth
That probably sounds cheesy but it’s the best thing I can think of the describe this once powerful idea. Once the lies have been burned out the truth can start to take root and you can move closer and closer to what you want in life because now you have awareness, knowledge, and most importantly of all wisdom. This path is often a restrictive one (at least by most definition) however it is only with restriction that we can ever have freedom (one of the many ironies of this universe). We need restriction for freedom.
I don’t mean restriction as in asceticism, monks don’t often walk the path of truth. I’m talking about something different here. Something deeper and more real. Don’t let conceptions from the world make it hazy. I’m talking about primal and natural truth, but that’s a topic for another time. Truth equals freedom. The more you live with the truth the more freedom that you’ll have and the more stable that freedom will be. The truth is harsh but it also clears your eyes so that you can really see and then you can start making real progress towards the things that actually matter and the things that you want in this life.
The path of truth is the path of freedom. I should also state the no one is 100% truth we all have weak areas that we’re working on (though there are many that are 100% lies). It’s about moving towards the truth, moving the percentage in the right direction. It’s through doing that, that we can achieve freedom and live the life that we want. We don’t have to be perfect (and if we did then this’d be pointless) just have to start moving in the right direction and not stop.
Truth Is Freedom & Freedom Is Truth
True freedom at least. Freedom of the soul, mind, and body. Not modern freedom which means doing whatever you want whenever you want. But a higher freedom. Not something I can sum up in a ending paragraph but I think you get the general idea of what I’m talking about here. The path to freedom is the path of truth. And the truth is often harsh and unpleasant because we’ve had sweet smelling (but rotten) lies drilled into us from an early age. Seek the truth and you’ll have freedom. Seek the truth not because it is easy but because it is good and ultimately fulfilling.
