Old guest post from site that went down so figured would repost here.
The quality of our life is in most part determined by the things that we do day in and day out. Our habits make our future and determine our destiny. If we spend our time doing things that improve our life then we’ll ascend to new heights. Likewise if we spend our time doing things that do nothing to improve our lives we’ll always stay at the level of the common man.
The only difference between those who are successful and winners from those who are losers is how they spend their time. The successful spend their time doing things that add to their lives. Things like lifting weights, reading books, and improving their business. Do these things for a long enough period of time and you’ll inevitably rise above those around you. In this article I am going to highlight 5 of the worst time wasters and life drainers there are and why you should avoid all of them.
Porn
I doubt there is a man alive today that has not struggled with this at some point. Access to high definition internet pornography for free is one of the most damaging things that has ever happened to Western society. There are a myriad of negative effects associated with porn with the list growing larger every day. Even in the best case scenario it’s a huge time waster. Time spent watching pixels of other men screw women you wish you were screwing can never be gotten back.
Worst case scenario it screws up your dopamine and can cause you to not be attracted to women in your day to day life. It can cause erectile dysfunction as well. Simply put porn can destroy your manhood. Your time should be spent sleeping with beautiful women in real life or spent on doing something productive. Save your masculine energy for your work or real women, don’t waste it on pixels. Of all the things on this list porn is one of the most destructive.
Alcohol
While there is nothing wrong with having a few drinks with friends on the weekend or having a nice glass of scotch from time to time. Alcohol is something that must be controlled and can never be used to numb you to the reality of your life. Some people spend their whole lives miserable because instead of facing their problems and insecurities they numb themselves with alcohol. Many spend their entire weekend numbing themselves in preparation for the week ahead.
When you are numb to something you are not going to take the time to correct it. Facing your problems is the only way to solve them. To stare them right in the eye and take action to make your life better. That is the way out of bad situations. Dropping alcohol will prevent you from numbing yourself to whatever it is that’s keeping you from the life you want to live. Once this numbness is gone you gain the agency needed to reach a whole other level of living.
Drugs
A lot of people are excited by the legalization of weed. These people are called losers. Weed does nothing but make you dumb and take away valuable time from your life. If you need to relax then meditate, go for a run, or take a hot shower. No matter how you cut it weed doesn’t add anything to your life. It only takes away.
Plenty will argue with me on this, because they have built their identity around a drug. How sad is that? What is going to do more for your life spending an hour smoking weed staring at the ceiling or hitting the gym for an hour? You know the answer. Weed may not be as bad as other drugs but that doesn’t mean it’s good. Drop it from your life and remember time is your most valuable asset.
Tobacco
Now you might think I’m getting harsh with this one but tobacco is another thing that adds nothing to your life. It takes time away from other things (though not much), makes your breath stink, and fills your body with chemicals that make it weak and feeble. Tobacco adds to your weakness and not your strength. It doesn’t matter if it’s cigarettes, dip, chew, hookah, or whatever. Tobacco is tobacco.
Look I have no problem smoking a cigar when a major life event occurs with my buddies but it’s not something that takes up a part of my day to day life. And if it did I would know that I was using it to numb myself from something that needed to be addressed. If I hate my job then I need to figure out how to get a better one, if life stresses me out I need to learn to deal with stress better. Not distract myself with a stimulant.
TV
Even if you took out all the political indoctrination in TV it would still for the most part be a complete waste of time. You are mindlessly watching others perform on a screen. When I talk about TV I’m not talking about things that add to your education but rather mindless entertainment. TV is a huge time waster. The average American watches 5 hours of TV a day.
In 5 hours you could get in a solid workout, shower, cook yourself a healthy meal, read a book for an hour, have sex with a hot girl, and write for an hour. Think how much more productive your life would be if you took back this time. You’d get more than an extra day a week to work towards your self-development and growth.
Summary
A large part of being a man is denying yourself instant pleasures for long term gain. Having the discipline to choose the harder right over the easier wrong. No matter how we look at the above things they all make us weak and do nothing to add to our lives.
You don’t have to cut them all out at once but you should definitely work at doing so. Start with one and then work to the others. Think of which one has the greatest negative impact on your life and start there. You won’t be sorry.
