The Circle Of Life (Barbarian Rhetoric)

This is a guest post from Nathan of Barbarian Rhetoric a site dedicated to masculine improvement and awakening. I recently came across this site when a friend, Jacob, introduced me to it and have been really impressed with it. I’d highly recommend after reading the article to go and check them out. In this article Nathan talks about change, growth, and other important topics. Enjoy.

Five years ago, I started my journey into the world of online information. It took me a little bit to get into blogs. I slowly started working my way through many of them consuming whatever content I came across. Here I am now with the honor of writing for one of the blogs that consumed me at the time and has helped shape how I write today.

I spent a good two years consuming information before I hit a point of over consumption. I started to realize I was rereading the same concepts and principles from different men.  Action is greater that consumption. Get out and do, write, lift, experience life, and then write some more. (Daily Writing) That is exactly what I started doing. I created my own blog to write for. At the beginning, I had no idea what to write about so whatever thoughts popped into my mind is what I would talk about.  I’d do a little editing and then post them. My skill at writing has never been great, but that doesn’t matter. If you continue to write and listen to any criticism you receive, you will get better. Simple. Mine has improved over the years, yet I still feel I have a long way to go.

When a friend of mind reminded me of this blog it was a long walk down memory lane. I began looking back at several posts that I had read, reread, then read again. Without realizing it at the time, everything I had consumed help guide me exactly to where I am at today.

Today I am working build my own blog. (Barbarian Rhetoric) When I started, like many others, it was only me. I do not feel I failed when it was just myself, more that I was another fish in the sea. It was boring, even to me, and I almost gave up and shut it all down, even then, though I felt like I had something to offer. I looked around to the world of blogging and asked myself what was missing? What did I enjoy when I was on my journey of opening my eyes? What lead me into the world of self-improvement from some of the dark places I was traveling at the time.

That is when it dawned on me. One of my favorite things was variety. Not one flavor of a person either; specialist in all areas of life. Many of us center on one thing and we become very good at it. We can then teach others what we know and guide them along the path to better themselves. The blogs of yesteryear that used to showcase these men of great wisdom have gone by the wayside or have become so watered down with garbage that you have to dig through it all to find the gems.

This is where I am now. In many aspects of my life, I am working to connect the old with the new and vice versa. Melding together the two worlds to work together so we may all become stronger in body, mind, & spirit. Will we all walk the same path?  No, we walk our own. All our paths are similar though, and we must learn from those that have gone before us. Even now, I am starting to seek out the men I use to read all the time. Why? Well, they are four years ahead of where I am at now. How can I learn from their experiences that they share about themselves? What mistakes did they make than I can avoid?  What things can I prepare for? What can I do to make myself better?

This is what each man should strive for, looking for the information to better themselves. What I have come to find out is I don’t always find the answers I am looking for. It’s more that I am preparing myself to notice situations when they present themselves. And when it presents itself…

Seize the opportunity.
