Members Only Post #162 – How To Keep Growing & Learning Through Your Entire Life

Growth. Ensuring that you are growing, learning, and becoming more each and everyday is one of the most important things you can do. Far too many people stagnate and then regress as time goes on. Many think that once they get out of school the time learning is past. They think once they get the bare basics of how to do their jobs that they can coast and that they’ll end up just fine in life.

Now for some people in some places and time, maybe this will work. If a person comes from a rich family or lives in a land of plenty that is going through their “golden age” before their fall. But I can tell you this, the chances of this working for you in the here and now are slim to none. To succeed in today’s world you have to be constantly learning, growing, and becoming more.

The competition is becoming too fierce and the strain on time, resources, and everything else too much. So how does one succeed in doing this? How does one continue to grow each and every day to help ensure that they’re ready to face whatever the world is going to throw at them. Is there any guaranteed way to know that you’re ready for what life’s going to throw at you? For whatever curve ball comes next?

The short answer is no, there’s no guarantee. However with that being said there are certainly things that can make a difference and can be the difference between success and failure.

How To Keep Growing

If money is an issue for you, meaning you don’t have control of it and aren’t sure how to make much more of it, which means you’re 99.9% of people then I’d strongly encourage you to learn more about sales and the psychology behind sales, meaning human nature. Even if you never think you’ll work a job related to sales, still do it. One, because all jobs are related to sales because sales is understanding humans and all jobs are human jobs. From cashier to CEO, understanding human nature and what makes human tick more is never, and I repeat, never going to hurt you…ever.

But how to learn sales? You have to get a sales job and go through their on the job training right? No, that’s bare bone basis stuff and if you have access to it then hey, make the most of it. But if not don’t think you’re not in luck. Because there are plenty of better options out there. Books, for one. Read the books by Grant Cardone, Dan Kennedy, Zig Ziglar, Brian Tracey, Tom Hopkins, Joseph Sugarman,  and Robert Cialdini. See how much you learn, not just about sales, but also about human nature and how humanity works.

Doesn’t matter what job you have you’ll benefit from this knowledge. Let’s say, hypothetically, that you don’t work a job. Every time you yawn a kind deity deposits ten thousand dollars in your bank account, or whatever. This knowledge will still help you. It’ll still help you understated make agreements with friends, family, enemies, lovers, haters, and everyone in-between. Whenever anyone is confused or unsure of where they start their “after school” education, sales is almost always where I start with them because of its utility.

Some Resources To Help You Keep Growing

But let’s say there’s another thing you want to do, we’ll try to keep it as wide as possible. What should you do? Maybe it’s cooking, dancing, or acting then maybe look for a class around you. There are generally plenty of classes being offered at community centers, community colleges, libraries, studios, and many other places. Check around and keep your ear to the ground you’re bound to find something. Again community centers are good places to start and then of course the internet. But let’s say there’s no classes around you.

Take advantage of online learning. I’ve taken classes on both MasterClass and Udemy and gotten value from both. Find a site that teaches the things that you want to learn, see how much a subscription is. Buy a few classes that you think might interest you. It’s good for your mind, body, and spirit to learn things sometimes just for the sake of learning them. Awhile ago I took a basic “how to draw class” have I been able to use my rudimentary sketching skills?

Not really but I met knew people, learn a new skill, and expanded both my social circle and neural network so I’d say it’s still a win and the class cost next to nothing. And then of course there’s books. You should already be reading, above everything else I’d say reading is the single most important thing a person can do for development and growth. Have a book you’re always reading. Switch between nonfiction and fiction, mainstream and out there, so on and so forth. Read, read, read and see what you uncover.

And then of course you should be seeking out new experiences. Try new things, experience new things, look for new adventures to have, even if small, and see where they lead you. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. A new place to eat, a new food, a new hobby, an experience you’ve never tried before. Get out there and try new things.

Growth Will Come If You Seek It

I’m not saying trying to new sushi place is going to make you CEO of your company but the more you can cultivate new experiences and growth the better off you’ll be for handling whatever curve ball life decides to throw at you. You can never be ready for everything and that’s not the point. The point is to be as ready as you can be, to live your life to its fullest, and develop skills that’ll aid you in life. So try new things, look for new experiences, take a class, read a book, listen to a lecture, and learn, learn, learn. When you do that you can’t help but grow, grow, grow.
