Most of us could do with a little more self-belief. Many of us could do with a whole lot more self-belief. No matter what you want to accomplish in life or what kind of impact that you want to make, you’re going to have a very hard time achieving it effectively, without having a healthy level of self-belief in yourself.
Our modern society as a whole is not healthy. Not physically, not mentally, and not spiritually. We are a weak society. We used to prop this up by saying “Well, at least we’re a rich society.” but the fact of the matter that the average person does not even have much material wealth anymore and that is only going down.
Homes will soon by luxuries afforded only by the super rich, healthy food that even a medieval peasant would have eaten will cost more than even a good salary can afford, and things like walking through a wood and listening to nature will again be exclusive to those that live on the fringes of society or the very rich.
We are not going in a healthy direction. One of the many casualties of the modern age is a plummet in people having healthy self-concepts and believing in themselves. This is exacerbated by collapse of communities, lack of health in general, and a million other things that we don’t have the space to go into here.
But back to the main topic
How to start believing in yourself.
What Is Self-Belief?
What is self-belief? What does it mean? What does it look like? What does it feel like? And why is it important? The best way that I could describe self-belief is having trust in yourself. You trust yourself to take the right actions and do the right things. And this is healthy because you know your situation one hundred times better than anyone else out there. Only you can feel you own wants and needs, can see what is around you, and know what you want on such an innate level.
This limited sight can lead to blindless in some places but at the same time this intimate knowledge is possessed by no one else. Hence we need healthy self-belief, a healthy self-concept. Where we know that we are not infallible but at the same time know that no one has the perspective on our problems that we do. Sure, others can help and shine light but ultimately it’s us who knows all the facets of our own life best.
But how does one develop self-belief?
The First Key To Self-Belief
Many of us has our self-belief crushed at a young age when we make mistakes, which we all inevitably do. Parents, teachers, others come down like the hammer of Thor after we make a blunder and when this happens again and again we eventually learn to not trust ourselves and let others do the thinking for us. Which causes us to be misled and used and a whole host of other bad things that also damage our self-belief. The cycle needs to be broken and that’s not something that’s easy.
The first thing I recommend is that you start investing in yourself. Spend money on yourself. This helps with self-esteem as well. Invest in yourself. Like Benjamin Franklin said empty your wallet into your mind and no one can take it from you. Invest in knowledge for yourself. Books, courses, classes, things of that nature. You must become the expert in what you must do in life. The mantle is yours. You decide how you end up, not other people. Stop waiting on others to do this for you because they never will.
Accept Responsibility
Responsibility and power are connected to each other. The more responsibility you take for where your life is and what’s happening in it, the more power that you will have and the more you will be able to affect your life, including your self-belief. Accept that the weight is on your shoulders, the ball has been passed to you, the sword is in your hands. Whatever helps you to understand that it starts and ends with you. It’s hard to have self-belief when you feel like a victim.
Investing in yourself in the start. By investing in yourself you start to see that you have worth and you’ll start to gain knowledge and learn to start trusting yourself and what you believe to be true. You are no longer a child. You know your own situation better than anyone else. Through knowledge you’ll start taking right action and right action will lead to right results and right results to getting where you want to go.
I’m not saying this is all there is to creating self-belief. But it’s a good start.
