How To Grind Your Way To Success

In our modern day and age we’re often taught that whatever we want, all the various types of success to be had in this world, can all be had with the taking of a pill, the press of a button, or the quick injection of this or that. This mindset permeates every area of our lives. And it’s far more than late night hucksters that push it. Doctors, lawyers, preachers, teachers, parents, peer groups, and much more all push this line of thinking, even if they don’t always recognize it.

And we might believe this, even if we think we don’t. Don’t underestimate the power of your subconscious mind and all the messaging that it receives, especially with how sophisticated and all encompassing modern methods of messaging have become. When you’re bombarded with something twenty four seven it can be hard not to let it affect you, if not impossible. However ultimately you do still have control.

Especially once you understand the problem and can identify it. Knowing is half the battle. So understand that even if you don’t consciously think that success in any worthy endeavor can be had easy and without hard work, without suffering, you may subconscious take actions that say otherwise. Understand this.

Anything worth achieving, worth undertaking, worth striving for is going to take suffering, dedication, persistence, and time, lots of time.

The Truth About Success & Humanity

Most of us have the knowledge that we need to get what we want out of life, it’s there. What we don’t have is the drive and dedication to go out and achieve the things that we want. Or the courage. Most of us know things we should do and things we shouldn’t do, things that’ll take us to our goals and that’ll take us away from our goals, things that’ll us to our dreams and things that’ll take us away. And maybe we even get up the motivation to go and start pursuing our dreams, whatever they may be.

We organize our lives so that we can accomplish that which we want. We start forging the habits that’ll take us to where we want, we start excising the habits that’ll take us away from what we want. We get everything lined up and start hitting the right notes each and every day. Of one hundred people, twenty might do this. And they are a rare breed. However those twenty won’t all achieve success, there is something that separates them from the one of one hundred that is successful. Most trick themselves into thinking because they started and they think starting is the hardest part that they’ll make it.

But that’s not the truth. Starting is not the hardest part, though it is hard and something to be proud of. It separates the twenty from the one hundred. However there is something further that separates the one from the twenty. And that is keeping your nose to the grindstone. Its having the discipline, dedication, and persistence to keep at something. Not for months, or even years, but decades, centuries if human life would allow such a thing. Success does not take years, it takes decades. Sometimes one, sometimes two, sometimes ten. Depending on what one wants to achieve.

Greatness Is Found In The Grind

Greatness is forged when you’re so focused on the grind that you get lost in it. You submerge yourself in it and don’t come up for air until your goals are achieved or you’ve soared past them. Keeping your nose to the grindstone day in and day out, year after year, decade after decade, is what results in greatness. Is what on a smaller scale results in success of any kind. Whatever you want, so long as it is a worthy goal, it’ll take you longer to achieve then you currently think.

As a matter of fact most people who’ve accomplished their goal, if they would have known how much struggle, work, and time their goal would require, would never have taken that first step. However that shouldn’t deter you because in seeking to accomplish worthy goals you develop many skills and in many ways that you never would have thought at the start. So if you keep with it and keep your nose to the grindstone not only will you accomplish your goal but you’ll develop many other worthy skills, abilities, and traits along the way. Many of which you never would have guessed you’d develop.

But success lies in the long hard slog of keeping your nose to the grindstone day in and day out. Success in any worthy endeavor is in some sense, very boring. Very, very, very boring, at least at some times. You have to keep putting in the work and that gets boring, but it’s critical to success. Keep doing the thing over and over and over again. Keep hitting the same habits, working on the same thing, anyone that’s achieved greatness or success will tell you that boredom is a part of it.

Put Your Nose To The Grindstone & Don’t Let Up Until You Get To Where You Want

Now by don’t let up I don’t mean never take stock of where you’re at or see if what you’re doing is getting you where you want to go. Monitor and measure things of course. But also realize that things are going to take longer than you think. Rome wasn’t built in a day and success isn’t achieved overnight. Put in a decade in and see where things are. For most people they’ll never do that. They can’t manage a month, and don’t worry if that seems overwhelming or daunting to you.

It should, a decade is a hell of a lot of time. Focus on really figuring out what you want and coming up with big worthy goals that are worthwhile. Then look at the habits that are required, the daily actions, that’ll get you to those goals. Then do that over and over and over again for the next ten years. It might not be ten, it might be a year, or two, or whatever else. It depends on what goal that you’re trying to achieve. But understand that it takes longer than you originally think.

And that, that’s just fine. Because in pursuing a worthy goal you develop into the man you want to be.
