Decisions can make or break us. Our lives, even our very selves are a culmination of all the decisions that we have made in life. Some make certain decisions and end up one way why others make certain decisions and end up another way. One of the key facets of succeeding in line, of which there are many, is learning how to make right decisions and why those decisions are in fact the right ones.
Let me be first to say that I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, as I think most people have. I’ve chosen wrong in career, relationships, values, beliefs, and much more at various points in my life. And even today there are things I know I struggle with and could do better on, again part of being human.
However I also know that through the years I have learned “tools” if you will to dealing with decisions and making better ones. And I want to share these “tools” or whatever you want to call them with you today and how they can benefit you and even change the trajectory of your life, if you let them.
So let’s dig deep into how you can go about (almost) always making the right decision.
Two Paths Diverged In A Wood…
First off let me state that there is no one way, belief, tool, or whatever else to always make the right decision, that’s just an impossibility. As humans we are going to err and err often, what we’re trying to do here is reduce the errors and make more correct choices. But again, it’ll never be perfect. But with that said how do we reduce errors?
To answer that I first want to say a few lines of an old famous poem
I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference.
Encourage us in our endeavor to live above the common level of life. Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole can be won.
What’s The End Look Like?
But it’s not just about choosing what’s harder or what’s a less walked path, though more often than not those two things are going to lead you right. It’s also important when looking at a choice to ask yourself what fruit will it bear? What do I mean by this?
Look at each decision as a seed. When that decision comes to fruit, what kind of fruit will it bear? For example working out, choosing to forge working out into a habit. What fruit does that bear? A better toned body, more confidence, more strength, more fitness, better sleeping and eating habits, a more positive mood, and about one hundred other things.
One kind of fruit does smoking weed or watching porn every day produce? Nothing good. Not that any single decision is going to make or break everything in anyone’s life but these fruits add up. Visualize what the completion of any decision is going to do for you. Try to be as honest as possible.
What is the end result of that decision? Is it something positive and good for you? Something that strengthens and ennobles you or something that weakens you and drags you down? Again, be honest. I see so many people who get defensive around their bad habits and defend them, but you have to be honest with yourself, which is never easy to do.
When making a decision, think what the end result is going to be.
Making Better Choices, One Day At A Time
You’re still going to make mistakes, that is life. But with these few things in mind you may make a whole lot less and be able to progress that much faster. You’ll get stuck in less ruts and overall get to where you want to get in life in as efficient and effective a way as possible. And rest assured you’ll still make plenty of wrong turns and have adventures along the way.
Keep these things in mind and I hope, like everything else with this site, that they add to your life.
