Recently wrote another guest post for the site Barbarian Rhetoric on mentorship titled The Importance Of Mentorship For Men in it I discuss the impact that three particular mentors had on me in my life as well as the “mentorship” I got from reading fiction books and how one can become a mentor themselves and why this is such a crucial thing.
The truth is so much of the failure in society that we see today could be seen as a lack of mentorship. Whether it’s fathers being barred from the home, lack of male “role models” as the TV likes to say, or simply lack of masculine influence in society. Society (and you because we are all part of society) suffer because of it. Leading to all sorts of aberrations and unhealthiness.
Becoming a mentor is one of the most important and life changing things that you can do. I always talk about focusing on yourself first and this still holds true. But once you’ve developed yourself it’s then time to also develop others or even just one person. Someone that you cant transmit your knowledge and wisdom to. Coaching, teaching, and many other paths offer this option.
But we all can be a mentor to those around us, even if it’s just through living as an example as what a man can be. We all need heroes and we all need mentors. We all need something to look up to and forward towards. Regardless of how we old and what stage of life that we are in. This never changes and never will.
Anyways be sure to give the guest post a look as well as check out the site as a whole. Nathan does a good job over there and fulfilling a need.
