No, you are on the right site. No, I haven’t gone crazy. It’s funny for some weird reason peacefulness has been seen as something that’s not masculine or something against the masculine spirit when I would argue that it’s the opposite. How many great men of old sought to the high mountains to contemplate the questions of life, how many great warriors have needed time to be alone and think for themselves?
I like to fight boxing, MMA, muay thai, BJJ, wrestling, shooting, combatives type stuff, hunting, all of these things feel good and primal to me. They heal, keep alive, and/or awaken something deep within my spirit. Something that God would “see and it was good”, something that deep and primal. From the creation when things were untainted. A spark that has been carried through. The fact of the matter is I also feel this when listening to classic or meditation music with the windows open and the sounds of a thunderstorm in the distance while writing as well.
Man is both water and fire. Or at least man in his full is. Modern man is a gray husk without water or fire but that’s a story for another time. Anyways my major point is that peace should play a roll in you and your families life just as much as preparing for war should. A man needs time to think and simply feel creation around him. But the modern world allows little for this.
So I’ve put together a couple of things I’ve recently been doing that have helped keep the peace within and want to share them with you.
Masculine Peace Bringing Method #1 – Essential Oil Diffuser
I know you probably though that this was just something for yuppie white chicks with too much time and money on their hands, or at least that’s what I thought for the longest time. That was until I went around the country a little and spent some time in a place that had honeysuckle just outside the window in full bloom. I loved the smell and it helped with writing and other indoor work. I missed it when moving away, which got my thinking about smells.
I thought about how much I love the smell that the winds bring when a great thunderstorm is closing in. It’s one of the most enervating smells there is, it gives me an energy that runs deep and lights up my body and mind. I have great workouts or writing sessions with it. And then I thought about how I like the smell of old leather, fresh rain, and pine trees and how when around those smells the effects that they had on me.
While I cannot always live in the exact clime I want, with an essential oil diffuser I can get somewhat close to it. While I haven’t found a leather essential oil yet there are many scents out there that work great to have in your house, especially in your in a trailer or small apartment. Don’t underestimate the power of smell.
Masculine Peace Bringing Method #2 – Salt Lamps
Again another thing I thought was some hippy trendy B.S. but then I got one to cast some ambient light in my bedroom and ended up really liking it. I like to keep my bedroom as close to a cave as possible. I keep it dark and cool as can be. The salt lamp casts a glow like a dying fire which is very comforting and primal. I thought it’d make it hard to go to sleep and wanted it only for when I had company but end up using it many nights.
Like I’ve talked about before I think the vast majority of problems that people experience is because of divorcing from primal ways which leads to all sorts of problems. Not saying that a salt lamp will solve all of them of course but they’re pretty cheap, cast some nice ambient lighting when you have a girl over, and like I said it’s like watching a dying fire before you drift off to sleep.
These lamps also have some healthy properties such as taking allergens out of the air and generating a small amount of negative ions (don’t have time to explain a quick google search brought up the benefits here) which is good for your mood (running water also generate negative ions which give you that energizing feeling that I was talking about with the thunderstorms). However there are a couple of things to remember with salt lamps.
First off you can’t use a LED lightbulb to light them as it doesn’t generate heat and therefore the salt lamp can “leak/melt” and you’ll end up with a messy goo that’s not fun to clean (also can happen if you leave it off too long without putting it in plastic, especially in a humid area). So don’t use a LED lightbulb and don’t leave it off too long and you’ll be fine.
Masculine Peace Bringing Method #3 – Beeswax Candles
When I used to write horror I liked to light the room with candles for ambient lighting as opposed to the harsh lighting that modern lights produce. It set the mood and was about all I ever thought about candles. But in my search for the smell of honeysuckle once more I started investigating into candles. I soon found like most modern things regular candles contain all sorts of shit that messes with your testosterone among other things.
So I looked for alternatives one alternative was soy which I think may be fine but being that I enjoy having balls soy always throws me off. Even though I know there are kinds that are fine. So after searching around some more finally settled on beeswax candles which also have some negative ion properties as well. And apparently some other health benefits as well.
Now whether this will work for you or not I’m not sure, it’s worked for that’s what I can say. Granted I usually concentrate this kind of stuff in one room (whatever my office happens to be at the time, with the exception of the salt lamp) so maybe that’s why I’m getting the concentrated effects.
Bring Some Peace To Your Life
These are three things to try out to make a room or office a little more peaceful. Not sure they’d work in a corporate office, but who knows. Chock it up to just one more reason to find a way to get the hell out of there. But at the very least you can apply these things at home and reap the benefits of them. Don’t underestimate the importance of peace for a man’s soul.
