Why Having An Addictive Personality Is An Asset

Have you ever suffered from addiction or obsession? If so then good news for you. You have what it takes to join the ranks of the most successful. You see when it comes to greatness only those who are willing to do whatever it takes, go all the way, and take things to the next level become successful. They have to become addicted to success. They have to become obsessed with it. You can’t chase after success a couple of hours a day and expect it to come, it’s something that has to be all consuming.

Most don’t have it in them to do this. One guaranteed way to know if someone has it in them is if they are addicted to something. Usually it’s something bad like drugs, whores, porn, or alcohol. However that same energy when directed in another way is what creates the major successes that the average look at in awe and think “How did they do that?”. Because they became addicted to constant improvement. They became addicted to leveling up their life as opposed to wallowing in mediocrity.

No Comfort For The Addicted

A person with an addictive personality isn’t comfortable being “normal” he can sense that there is something wrong with it, even if he can’t place his finger on exactly why. All he knows is he has no desire for it and that he would rather have anything else, even addiction. He operates too fast and at too high of a level to sit around do the 9-5 then come home and watch TV until going to bed. That’s not for him, he is constantly seeking a high. He has to find that high and unfortunately instead of finding it in developing himself finds it in something unhealthy.

He has the base idea right, that mediocrity is not for him. However he has the wrong idea in what he looks for to get his high. Like I said the person with the addictive mindset can’t just sit around and do nothing. They have to get things done or they have to get a high. They have to throw their power into something or they go crazy. Drugs, alcohol, whores, porn, or whatever becomes what they throw their power behind. That is what they use to get the high they need.

Repression Leads To Destruction

Those who try to repress their addictive personality never win. It simply gets expressed in negative ways. If a person who has the addictive personality gives up on their dreams then they go into the negative things listed above to get their high. They aren’t comfortable settling down and being mediocre. So if they aren’t shooting for the stars then they need to numb their mind to this fact. They get convinced by the mediocre that they just need to settle down and stop having such big dreams. That they shouldn’t work so hard and just relax, not realizing that this isn’t possible for someone with an addictive personality.

They need stimulation and they need to strive or they need to medicate themselves to the point where they forget that they’re not chasing after their dreams. Believe it or not but many addicts are very motivated people, motivated to keep their addiction going but motivated nonetheless. The average addict also works hard, works hard at keeping their addiction going but hard working nonetheless. Being average isn’t acceptable to them so if they can’t be above average then they’ll destroy themselves so that they become below average. Like a smart person dumbing himself down to be around other dumb people.

Redirection

If you’ve ever had an addiction then good news you have what it takes to succeed. They key is redirecting all that powerful energy into the right direction. You’ll never be normal (normal sucks anyways) and that’s a good thing. You have to replace negative addictions with positive addictions. Use that same power that made you get up at two in the morning to fuel your addiction to have you up at two in the morning working on yourself, on a project, or on your business. Average is going to kill you, go for it all because that is the only thing that is going to keep you occupied.

Going for anything less than greatness will all but ensure you end up addicted to something negative. Your goals should soak up all of that energy that you have. You have to be obsessed with success and constant development. This will propel you to levels others only dream about and it has to. Average and mediocrity will never work for you, ever. Don’t listen to to others they’ll get you killed. Average isn’t an option for you and that’s a good thing.

Summary

Those with addictive personalities have exactly what it takes to succeed. You don’t succeed from doing just enough to get by or doing the bare minimum. Anyone who asks what’s the least amount they can do will always be either a failure or mediocre at best. You have to be willing to go all in, time and time again to be successful. You need that addictive energy, just like it can drag you down into disgrace it can also propel you to greatness. It’s a powerful energy, how it’s used it what separates the the man on the corner from the man in the mansion. Use it wisely.

  1. Hi Charles. great post. really liked it. Also reading Man Up. keep it up!

Im one with an addictive personality and everything you say here is true to the bone no doubt about it. Get addicted on something you like to do and the world will become yours. Instead of you getting high from bullshit like drugs and whores, get high from creativity.

The creativity high is much much better than any of those other highs simply because it LASTS.

Thinking about sending you a related article to your site that could help you and your followers.
