David De Las Morenas is a writer on masculine self-improvement. He runs a blog over at How to Beast filled with great information especially in regards to lifting and nutrition.
He has a couple of books mostly dealing with confidence. However Write Book, Make Money was the first one that I picked up.
From Idea to Print
This book covers everything from making a document on Microsoft word fit for kindle to the maintaining sales in the long run. For those of you who have a book idea but are not sure how you would go about turning that idea into money this book is for you. Though short it is packed with useful information and no fluff.
This was the book I used as a step by step guide to write The Primer
For example two pages that I have marked are “Prepare your word document correctly to avoid wasted time when you publish the book later” and “Add in a few key pages to complete the book and enhance your sales”.
Why Self-Publish?
The book starts out describing why publishing a book on Amazon is a smart idea and why now is the time to do so. I agree with this wholeheartedly. You’re going to have little to no luck getting through to the average publisher and even when you do your ROI is minimal. Between the chunk of profit the publishers take and then having to self-promote your book as many publishers make you do. This makes self-publishing the wise choice for people who want to make money and help others without having to go through multiple middlemen taking their cut.
David then talks about how each and every one of us has ideas that could potentially help others. Each of us has some type of knowledge that could be the game changer in someone else’s life. Amazon offers a perfect way to get this knowledge to others and improve the lives of people you’ve never even met. We all have areas of expertise and David goes more in depth about how to flesh out these ideas and develop them into book ideas.
Step by Step Process
The middle part of the book is the most valuable part. David offers a step by step guideline to follow to write your book. It starts with breaking down what you know and developing a rough outline all the way to pages to include in the back of your book to help customers find out more about you so you can service them even further. Though I didn’t follow the outline completely as I already had worked through the first couple of steps on my own, looking back it probably would have been wise too.
Now writing my second book I see how following the entire outline from beginning to end has its benefits. One day I may develop an outline of my own but for now David’s has been working like a charm for me. So regardless if you’re just starting out writing your first book or have been at it awhile the outline contained inside will help you with guidance and servicing the largest crowd possible.
Sales Basics
The final part of the book covers the basics of keeping your book selling. From making an author page to what to do if your book’s sales drops off. While not in depth it does provide the basic necessities to get you started in the right direction. The book has no fluff it can easily be read in a day and only takes a few seconds to look something up for reference.
That was something else I liked about this book. David did not use any filler despite making his page count smaller. You see this with authors all the time who try to get over a certain mark so that they’re book looks better on Amazon. As a book with a page count of one hundred and fifty will look more legitimate than one that has eighty pages.
Summary
Write Book, Make Money is a great deal. Without it I would still be floundering around watching YouTube video after YouTube video trying to figure out the process of getting my word document to a published kindle book that was properly formatted. Something that after weeks of looking for still couldn’t find a simple succinct answer. That is until I bought Write Book, Make Money.
