What One Man Can Do Another Man Can Do

I’m going to tell you a secret that very few other writers, bloggers, or experts of any topic are going to tell you. And it’s this simple truth what one man can do another man can do. Believe it or not but your heroes and the successful people you admire aren’t that much different that you. As far as potential goes. There is more similarities between you and them then there are differences. Many people get this lie stuck in their head that they could never be like those that they admire. That their heroes were born with blessed blood or were “special” and that is why they have achieved what they have achieved.

But this isn’t the truth. The fact of the matter is one what man can do another man can do. If you admire someone who is successful you can also be successful. It isn’t something that requires the stars and moon to align or for fate to be in your favor. After all you create you own fate. Don’t look at people you admire as being above you look at them as someone who you will eventually pass. After all that is the purpose of a good master for his apprentices to become greater than he was.

The Lie

The has been told since you were young. That the successful, the rich, the famous, or insert other desirable trait are different from you. That they have something special that you do not. This is a lie they are human just like you and me. What they can do and accomplish you can also do and accomplish (if not more as you have them as an example, something that they didn’t obviously have). The only exception to this is physical feats for example professional sports. No mater my mindset or work ethic I won’t be a professional football player though I can be much more successful and richer than one.

Physical competition aside everything else is up for grabs. Stop limiting yourself. Don’t say “Well that’s them and I’m just me” that’s a defeatist mindset that’ll ensure you never live up to your potential. Look whatever it is that you want in life and someone else has accomplished you can accomplish it too. Is it getting rich beyond your wildest dreams? Sleeping with the most beautiful woman? Becoming the greatest martial artist in your weight class? Whatever it is you have the capacity to do it.

Permission

However here’s the rub and where most fail. They never give themselves permission to be great and therefore limit themselves. I’ll give you a great example. Say you have a colleague you really respect. He is professional and has some of the best sales skills you’ve ever seen. He could truly sell ice to an Eskimo and negotiate himself out of prison. You’re going to a meeting with a big client with him. You get there you both shake hands with the client and the negotiations start.

Halfway through you realize that your colleague is not aware of the clients main buying motive and therefore his presentation is falling flat, you know this and are aware of this. However you feel that your colleague is better than you and therefore keep your mouth shut and the sale is lost. Because you didn’t give yourself permission to be better than your colleague who you look up to so much. Give yourself permission to be greater than everyone around you and to surpass those who you look up to.

Life Is A Mind Game

You can’t get around hard work. However without the proper foundation of a good mindset you’ll always limit yourself and never get anywhere. Mindset works like a governor in a car. If it’s set a to a certain point no matter how much gas you give it, it just isn’t going to go above that mark. Get rid of the governor and it’ll go in proportion to the gas you give it. Likewise you may be driving in the fast lane following someone who is going fast. Yet there will come a time when you’ll have to pass them.

The more you grow the faster you go and if you keep at it eventually you’re going to pass all those around you. The teacher will become the student and vice versa. Keep at it, eventually all of those ahead of you will be in your rear view mirror. This is natural for those of us who are getting after it. Never limit yourself, realize that what others can do you can do. Write it out if you have to “What one man can do I can do”. And write it out until you truly believe it. Until it becomes a part of who you are.

Summary

Nothing is sadder than wasted potential and sitting around thinking about “What could have been”. Stay out of your own way. What one man can do another can do. Don’t get blinded by the perception of those you look up to, at the end of the day they’re still human or to use an old saying “They put their pants on one leg at a time as well”. What others have accomplished so can you, and even more as you have them as an example. So get out there and smile as you fly past those you once thought were gods.
