10 Masculine Hobbies To Cultivate

Alright so this is going to be a breakdown of 10 masculine hobbies you can take part in and replace with other things. I write a lot about dropping things like weed and porn and lots of guys have trouble with this because they don’t have much else going on in their life or have even had their lives defined by these things. I also recommend limiting things like video games or mindlessly watching TV which can have the same effect. Anyways with a lot of these guys I notice a pattern like I was saying.

Namely they don’t have much else going on in their lives. I’m not one of those guys who believes in simply cutting something out without also replacing it with something else. The void will always be filled and if you aren’t careful it will be filled with whatever you’re trying to get away from. This can also apply to quitting smoking or any other bad habit. Also cultivating these hobbies or habits (depends how you look at them) prevents you from being susceptible to those negative wastes of time in the first place. Alright so let’s get started.

Masculine Hobby #1 – Hunting

Getting out in nature, spilling blood, bonding with your brothers, and learning some basic survival skills in the process. Hunting is a great hobby to pick up and learn. Also it’s one of the natural professions of man. Doesn’t matter if it’s with a gun or bow (or even spear). Any day out in the woods is better than a day spent sitting around a room, watching a TV, or sitting on the computer. There are many different kinds of hunting from sitting in a tree stand (effective but can be boring) to watching for trails and signs of animals and attempting to stalk them (fun but way less effective, at least for me). You’ll definitely want to check out hunting.

Masculine Hobby #2 – Fishing

I’ll be the very first to admit that I’m a much bigger fan of hunting than fishing but still enjoy the sport immensely. Again getting out in nature, bonding with brothers, and enjoying the water while catching some dinner. You’ll notice some common themes with these and getting out in nature is one of them. Man was meant to be wild, not domesticated. I including fishing with a net, spear, or pole in here not just fishing with a pole from a boat. There are many different ways to fish and I recommend switching them up from time to time. Again another great masculine hobby.

Masculine Hobby #3 – 4 Wheeling

You could also put hiking here as well. But frankly 4-wheeling is a bit more fun. You get to go fast, feel the wind in your hair, while also getting out in nature. Like most men I love speed but there is a bigger thrill (at least for me) in whipping down a trail with the woods around me then going 100 on the highway (which I obviously don’t recommend because I never recommend anything illegal). Again something to do with your boys or bring a girl to a “special spot”. They can be expensive but something to look into if you love nature, speed, and freedom (and what man doesn’t?)

Masculine Hobby #4 – Combat “Sports”

This is something that you should be doing anyways but I thought I’d throw it in here because it is technically a “hobby”. Things like boxing, wrestling, BJJ, karate, muay thai, or anything else that has you fighting with other men bettering yourself. As you know from my writings I’m partial to boxing and then wrestling but if you find something that works for you then by all means go for it regardless of what fighting style that it is. Every man should be familiar with and capable of violence. If you fear and can’t handle confrontation you’ll have a hard time calling yourself a man.

Masculine Hobby #5 – Shooting & Small Unit Tactics

Again encompassing quite a bit of ground here. Small unit tactics really doesn’t apply unless you actually have a group of men that you can train these things with and do so realistically not just LARPing nerds (if you’re fat you’re LARPing and need to handle that ASAP). And shooting is pretty much going to be going to the range or if you have a lot of property somewhere there. I’d recommend practicing more “realistic” styles of shooting such as point shooting and doing drills that reinforce “realistic” scenarios as opposed to simply range/target shooting. But even that is better than nothing at all.

Masculine Hobby #6 – Weight Lifting

Powerlifting, bodybuilding, strongman, whatever just getting in the gym, building muscle, and getting stronger these all count as weight lifting as far as I’m concerned. The moving of iron to improve oneself. This is another one that there really isn’t reason that you should not be doing, every man should do physical training and weight lifting is about the best there is. I can’t think of a way to better improve your aesthetics and strength, two fundamental things for being a man. Buy a barbell and squat rack, join the gym, do whatever you have to do but get working.

Masculine Hobby #7 – Reading

Yup you read that right. Though it usually is often lumped in with the others on this list reading is important and when you’re doing the right kind of reading a masculine hobby. I used to recommend only reading non-fiction about things that you want to be better at or learn about but now also recommend certain fiction if it has masculine principles and inspires you to be better. Anything that calls you to be tougher, higher, stronger, and more of a man is good in my book. Read good books that push you to be more and teach you things that you’ll need to succeed in life.

Masculine Hobby #8 – Working On Car/Fixing Things

I’ll be the first to admit I’m a pretty shit mechanic and this is an area that is weak for me. But I’m going to work to remedy this. Plus this will save you money and frankly should be something you know the basics of. Whether it’s fixing basic stuff around the house and your car to souping up your car. Why are you playing a video game or smoking a bowel when you don’t even know how to change the fucking oil? Much less other things. I’m not saying you have to be a full fledged grease monkey but learn the basics of this stuff.

Masculine Hobby #9 – Riding A Motorcycle

I suppose you could throw riding a horse in here as well. I personally enjoy it plus getting deep in trails is always fun. But a motorcycle is probably better. Riding a motorcycle is essentially a family tradition for me but regardless I’d recommend you look into getting one. Right now I’m looking to save up enough for a halfway decent bike (American not Japanese). Riding is fun and gives you a sense of freedom you can’t get many other places in the modern world, plus it gets the chicks wet which is always a plus.

Don’t Be A Parody

Unless you’re competing at a top level for something (for example a professional athlete or fisherman or something of that sort) it’s better to be a jack of all trades then super specialized. So no doubt you have seen “men” do all of these habits yet not be masculine at all. We all know the fat hunter that would get torn to shreds if he hunted with a spear, the pencil necked “angst ridden (low T)” bitch ass writer, and the muscly body builder who’s a giant pussy and couldn’t punch his way out of a paper bag. Don’t be any of these things. Mix and match and shore up your weaknesses.

Combine them. For example be a body building, boxing, gun toting, biker that can hunt and write. Does that make sense? Don’t specialize too much in one thing to become a parody. Specialization is for insects as Heinlein used to say. Be a well rounded badass. These hobbies will do much to help secure that end for you. Pick a few and get to working on them.
